The Battle Cats: Game Review

Ah, yes, the battle cats. A little mobile game with a big personality. From the cats to the battles (and, you know, a little more). Whether you’ve been a veteran for years or are just playing the game for the first time, this game is easy to pick up and play anywhere, anytime. I’ve roped tons of friends into this game, who have played it for years, not only because it’s addicting but because, with constant updates, it keeps staying fun and fresh.

The Units

The units you deploy in battle (Or the “Cats”) determine how well you can progress in the game. You can get these units through a vast slew of methods – logging in every day, rolling the cat daily, eating certain stages, or even tapping long enough in the main menu. These units range from small, quadrupedal cats to giant gods and goddesses who mow down enemies with mighty cat power! The possibilities for who (or what) you get to deploy in your army are endless! These units range not only in their price but their functionality as well! Some units, such as “Awakened Bahamut,” are much better at rushing their way into the enemy lines and tearing crap up! “Eraser Cat,” on the other hand, is what’s known as a “Meatshield,” which is used primarily to block heavy hitters from oncoming damage. The cats never get dull, getting wilder and wilder the more you play!

The Collabs

This serves more as a subsection, but I’ll give it an official header anyway – the collaborations in battle cats! Now, being a mobile game about sending out cats, one would think this game wouldn’t get many sponsors – maybe two a year, at best 3. However, in some twisted, crazy, perhaps even non-sensical manner, Battle Cats defies the odds and goes all out, not just in their amount of Collabs, but in their extremity too! Take their Neon Genesis Evangelion, an old anime) collab, for example – they not only add exclusive units but exclusive stages, types, animations, evolutions, and so much more! And the collaborations keep coming! Metal Slug, Street Fighter, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Merc Storia, they’ve got ’em’ all! And I’m sure battle cats won’t stop there – they’ll probably be adding collabs till the end of time!

The Pacing

The way one progresses in this game makes it so that the player is both never bored and yet never satisfied – always striving for more. First, the player starts in “Empire of,” a world in which they are only unlocking simple cats and fighting; however, as time goes on, enemies start getting harder – and cats start getting better. In “Into the Future,” one must face a new slew of challenges – unit-type advantages, enemies that freeze your units, or enemies that can’t even be touched by your cats! The player is forced to keep striving, pushing forward – and it works! It provides a rewarding result, in the end, making sure one wants to keep playing while keeping it interesting!

The Updates

The sheer amount of updates this game has is wild! I first played this game about 5 years after it came out. It seemed pretty old, but the community was still lively, so I was into it. I then took a break for a year or two, then came back. I thought the game would be the same as ever, with maybe a few new cats here and there – I was pleasantly surprised! Not only had the game added new cats, but it also had new stages, new types of enemies, new items, and whole new game mechanics! The devs for Battle Cats never stop working and are always at it, keeping the game fresh for all! I am hopeful for everything they will add in the next update and all those to come!

In Conclusion

“The Battle Cats” is an excellent game. It has fantastic art and a great progression system, and it will keep you entertained for hours! I adore this game and all it has to offer! I urge anyone who reads this to give it a chance, and I wish you the best of luck regarding the cat gacha – who knows, maybe you’ll get the rarest cat of them all – a legend rare!

P.S. Get Can Can Cat ASAP!
