The Batman: Movie Review

The new Batman live-action movie hit theaters earlier this month. Batman is a fan favorite for superhero fans with the comics and numerous adaptations as both TV shows and movies, and 9 live actions to date. This review will have a slight summary with no spoilers in it. The movie will be rated out of 5 stars based on the storyline, climax, and conclusion.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, and Jeffrey Wright as Lt. James Gordon. The Riddler, a serial killer, begins killing off key political figures in Gotham City, and Batman gets involved in the investigation. Batman begins tracking him down while investigating the corruption in the city and his family’s potential involvement in it.

The Story:
The plot was filled with mystery and intrigue the whole way through. This portrayal of Batman is an entirely new take on the iconic character, with the editing of the film being excellent and the movie really served to encapsulate all the personas of Batman. This movie is set apart from the rest with Batman playing detective at parts to catch the villain. The characters were all spot on, and as the movie progressed, we saw a great deal of depth from them. The storytelling was beautifully done, and the action scenes were well executed and made for a great cinematic experience. Some drawbacks were that the movie was incredibly long at around 3 hours.

Climax:
The climax of the movie was alright, though it felt drawn out, and there were simply a lot of things loaded in there. With all that being drawn out and quickly unpacked, it took away all the build-up that had steadily progressed in the movie. It is worth noting that the movie had an interesting twist that really elevated it.

Overall Rating:
I would rate this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. The acting was excellent, and as someone that loved Batman as a kid, it stayed true to the roots and brought out a new side of the beloved superhero. It is a great movie that I certainly think is worth watching.
