Politics

Politics – Humanity’s Achilles heel. Touchy topics such as abortion, gun rights, environmental safety among others have caused great barriers among countries, states, and even families all over the world. While new controversies continue to sprout daily, the stability of the world is truly being tested with deeper rifts among politicians and the general public. Unfortunately, at this current time, people have lost the ability to listen. Quarreling and stubbornness seem to be the sole methodology for problem-solving which inevitably leads to chaos and little accomplished. We hope to combat this ignorance. We would like to share our personal views on certain topics and hope others will be willing to consider opposing ideas in an effort to move towards a more civil-minded society.

Our current conception of world affairs can be associated mostly with two distinct entities: the news and social media. The news is superb at providing live updates anywhere in the world. However, companies like Fox and CNN are constantly employing middle-aged adults that spew out news with either a “left-wing” or “right-wing” take, rendering our thinking to become one-dimensional. On the other side, social media is plastered with posts containing buzz words with questionable content. Frequently, you will come across snippets of people’s thoughts that are usually taken out of context, adding to the chaos.

When we started this site, there was never any intention to delve into politics out of fear of displeasing someone. We only wanted to produce content that catered to everyone, limiting our scope tremendously. After some revelations and the realization that it’s impossible to please everyone, we have decided to move forward with politics. With the first amendment on our side, we feel confident in encroaching upon the political landscape. We will occasionally feature pieces that are political in nature. These views are the thought of the author and in no way represent the organization that is the Basis Bugle. Our site serves as an outlet for authors to post their work and the type of pieces you read will truly depend on what authors are on staff that year. Some years could have all left-winging folks while other years could feature solely right-minded people. We don’t have an “agenda”; we just want to allow our staff to share their views.

Each person on our staff comes from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and experiences. This difference allows everyone to have varied views on different topics. We are trying to allow others to see why an author looks at an issue a certain way. You can disagree with it, laugh at it, or approve of it; we don’t care. We just hope it deepens your understanding of a certain issue. We hope you’re mature enough not to attack us as individuals but to attack our actual content and ideas instead. Additionally, it’s important to remember that our authors are human; their views can change in the future. Every piece will be reviewed by our Editor-in-Chief and even a teacher if necessary, and we will strive to always include factual evidence to support our case.

[Graduated] Jonathan Zhang is a senior at Basis Peoria. He is constantly drugged on caffeine due to his complete disregard for a sleep schedule. He prefers coffee over red bull because he can chug coffee much faster, allowing caffeine to reach his bloodstream quicker. He is also a certified "foodie" and likes to pig out at restaurants. His cooking skills are subpar and usually result in something inedible. Additionally, he thoroughly enjoys comedy and cites Irish demigod Conan O'Brien as his inspiration. He also enjoys watching legends such as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. He hopes to have a normal sleep schedule one day.
