Cafe Rio’s Chicken Taco
I was looking forward to seeing what Cafe Rio had to offer this school year. As soon as I picked up my meal, I was perplexed at what I saw. I observed a massive clump of aluminum foil that encased my taco and a plethora of tiny plastic cups containing beans, rice, lettuce, and salsa. I was very displeased that they swapped out their signature chips for some side dishes. Slightly miffed, I slowly began to taste the different ingredients. I started with their rice, which was absolutely disgusting due to the stiff texture. I thought they had accidentally undercooked it; however, it was actually their standard method of preparation. How dare they ruin such a sacred food so dear to my heart! I do not know of a single culture whether it be the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Indians, or Mexicans that purposely undercook their rice. The rice was an absolute joke and I highly recommend you stay away from this hideous garbage. Next, I tasted their beans or frijoles as I like to say and I was pleasantly surprised as it was cooked well and had a subtle hint of heat coming from the green peppers. Afterwards, I sampled their pico de Gallo and it was mediocre at best. I was longing for some chips to go along with their pico. Finally, I reached the lettuce, although it wasn’t the freshest lettuce, it would do. Subsequently, I was about to try the main dish, the infamous chicken taco. As soon as I picked up the taco, my hands were plastered with grainy flour. I carefully opened it up and discovered a sheet of white cheese plastered upon the taco and a small portion of shredded chicken carelessly scattered around. I re-closed it and took a massive bite which I regretted. The chicken was moisture less and left my mouth parched. I was guzzling down water like a mad man, just so I could swallow it. Overall, I was quite dismayed at the measly amount of chicken served and the subpar sides they substituted in for their signature chips. Cafe Rio has gotten complacent and the quality of their food has been on the decline.
